Originally a competition entry for a house in Texas, we continued to explore the possibilities of designing a simple 3 bedroom house with innovative yet attainable goals in sustainability and affordability. It is based on a 26 foot cubic footprint which minimizes its physical impact on any site. It is clad with recycled steel paneling which can be ordered in any color, similar to purchasing a car. The primary construction system is conceived using SIPS prefabricated structural insulated panels which eliminate any jobsite framing. The inverted roof is a symbolic departure from the monopoly symbol found in our childhood expectations of a family home. This roof geometry allows for soaring ceiling heights toward the views and funnels water to 2 spouts which harvest rainwater into cisterns.
We were very excited that the budget worksheet confirmed the pricing to be under $100,000. As prices vary by geographic location, we would be happy to pursue finding a proper home for this concept!
There is a walk-through video we produced which can be downloaded from the projector icon or streamed from youtube (below).
